Homeowners and landlords. Not available for new builds.

Replacing existing heating

Gas boiler, oil boiler, LPG, electric, or storage heaters. Oil boiler replacements get the higher £9,000 grant.

Property in England or Wales

The Boiler Upgrade Scheme covers England and Wales.

An Energy Performance Certificate is required. We arrange one if you don't have it.

MCS certified installer

The grant is only paid through an MCS accredited installer. We are.

  • Radiators work fine with a heat pump. Some may need upsizing. We check every one during the survey.
  • Underfloor heating is the ideal pairing. UFH runs at low temperatures naturally.

Is there a government grant for air source heat pumps?
Yes. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme gives you £7,500 towards an air source heat pump, or £9,000 if you're replacing an oil boiler. It's paid directly to your MCS-certified installer, so it comes straight off your quote.
Who is eligible for the heat pump grant?
Homeowners and landlords in England and Wales replacing an existing heating system: gas, oil, LPG, electric or storage heaters. The property needs an EPC on file and the installer must be MCS certified. It is not means-tested.
How much is the grant?
£7,500 for most homes. If you're replacing an oil boiler, the grant increased to £9,000 in June 2026. We apply the correct amount automatically in your quote.
How do I apply?
You don't apply yourself. Your MCS-certified installer applies on your behalf. We submit the full application as part of the process, typically approved within 4-6 weeks.
Is the grant means-tested?
No. The grant is available to any eligible homeowner regardless of income.
Can I get the grant on a new build?
No. The grant is for replacing an existing heating system, not for new builds.
Has the scheme been expanded?
Yes, twice. Since November 2025 the scheme also covers air-to-air heat pumps (£2,500 grant) and heat batteries. And from June 2026, oil boiler replacements qualify for an increased £9,000 grant, while other air source heat pump installations remain at £7,500.
