EV charging infrastructure installed at commercial premises

Why add EV charging to your business?

Attract talent, meet ESG targets, and future-proof your premises.

Attract & Retain Staff

Workplace charging is an increasingly expected benefit. Employees with EVs actively seek out employers who offer charging — it's a tangible perk that costs far less than a pay rise.

Meet ESG Targets

EV charging demonstrates a measurable commitment to sustainability. It supports your carbon reduction goals, strengthens your ESG reporting, and shows stakeholders you're taking action.

Generate Revenue

Charge visitors, customers, or guests for using your chargers. With contactless payment and app-based billing, you can recover costs or create a new income stream from your car park.

Future-Proof Premises

The UK will ban new petrol and diesel car sales by 2035. By installing EV charging now, you're preparing your premises for the inevitable shift — and avoiding the rush later.

Tax Benefits

EV charging infrastructure qualifies for 100% first-year capital allowance, meaning you can deduct the full cost from your taxable profits in the year of purchase. Plus the WCES grant covers up to £350 per socket.

Smart Load Management

Our load management systems monitor your building's electricity demand in real time and distribute power across chargers dynamically. Install more chargers without upgrading your electrical supply.

Commercial energy infrastructure

A single partner for your entire project

We're not a broker or a national chain. Abode is a local energy company covering Dorset, Hampshire & Wiltshire. We handle everything from the initial site survey to ongoing maintenance and support — one company, one point of contact.

Our NAPIT-registered engineers carry out all electrical work and charger commissioning. We also handle WCES grant applications, DNO notifications, and back-office software setup. Whether you need two chargers or twenty, we design systems that work for your site and your budget.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers to the most common commercial EV charging questions.

How many EV chargers does my business need?
It depends on your use case. For workplace charging, a good starting point is 10–20% of parking spaces, scaling up as EV adoption grows. For fleet depots, you may need one charger per vehicle or use smart scheduling to share chargers across shifts. We assess your specific requirements during the free site survey and design a system that scales.
What power supply is required?
Most commercial premises can support several 7–22kW AC chargers on their existing three-phase supply. For larger installations, a supply upgrade or load management system may be needed. We assess your electrical capacity during the site survey and design a system that works within your existing supply wherever possible — load management often means you can install more chargers without a costly upgrade.
Can I charge visitors or customers?
Yes — we can set up payment systems so visitors pay per kWh or per session via contactless card or app. This lets you recover electricity costs or generate revenue. You can also offer free charging to staff while charging visitors a different rate. Everything is managed from a single dashboard.
What grants are available for commercial chargers?
The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCES) provides up to 75% of the cost of charger and installation, capped at £350 per socket, for eligible businesses. SMEs, charities, and public sector organisations can claim for up to 40 sockets. We handle the full grant application as part of the project — it doesn't slow anything down.
How does load management work?
Load management (or dynamic load balancing) monitors your building's total electricity demand in real time and adjusts the power going to each charger accordingly. During periods of high building demand, chargers reduce their output; when demand drops, they ramp back up. This means you can install more chargers without upgrading your electrical supply — the system ensures you never exceed your available capacity.
What payment systems are available?
We set up back-office software that supports contactless payment, app-based payment, RFID cards for staff, and monthly invoicing for fleet customers. You can set different rates for different user groups, track energy consumption per charger, and generate usage reports. All managed from a single online dashboard.
